Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) said Tuesday she would oppose a second term for Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell if President Biden renominates the central bank leader before his current term expires early next year.

Previously, Ms. Warren had strongly implied she wouldn’t back another term for Mr. Powell, a Republican nominated by then-President Trump in 2018, but hadn’t explicitly signaled outright opposition. She is the first Democratic senator to publicly oppose Mr. Powell’s potential reappointment.
