Revere Beach closed a half hour after dusk on Saturday. A parking ban also went into place at 6 p.m.

Police said they also made five arrests at Carson Beach in Dorchester after “many visitors to the beach engaged in unruly behavior and disorderly conduct.” The charges included disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, interfering with a police officer and possession of fireworks.

Two of the people arrested were juveniles.

State Police estimated the crowd at Carson Beach to be around several thousand people over the course of the evening.

Police did not identify any of the people arrested by name.

State Police said they are stepping up patrols at both beaches on Sunday in anticipation of large crowds trying to escape the potentially record-setting heat.

There was already a heightened police presence Saturday at Revere Beach, where a week ago one person was hospitalized and five others were arrested for fighting near the bandstand.
